Top 3 tips for easing back into driving
Lockdown has been difficult, with everyone being restricted on what they can and can’t do. This means that people haven’t been doing their daily routines, which results in people driving less often. You may have kept a similar routine where you were still driving to work or you could have worked from home and your vehicle has been sat on your drive.
Keep on reading to find out our top 3 tips on easing yourself back into driving.
Avoid distractions
Having a sing to the radio or chatting with a passenger can all cause distractions which can lead to unnecessary mistakes. Whilst you are trying to gain your confidence back with driving, keep these to a minimum. When you feel you are more confident then this is the time you can slowly introduce chatting and having the music on.
Give yourself time
When you are easing yourself back into driving its best to start off slow, give yourself time to go back onto motorways. When we rush into things then we can panic which can lead to accidents. Start off with small routes that you know off by heart. Once you have found your confidence then you can start heading on longer journeys.
Brush up on basics
Remember when we were learning to drive and our instructor made us reverse around a corner, about a thousand times? Well, why don’t you do that but with yourself! If you know a local area that’s quiet so you can practice or even head to a car park and just brush over your manoeuvres. You will be surprised what an hour of practice can do.
Also, you could use this time to go over the theoretical side of driving, look into any new rules or regulations. Why not check out The Highway Code that is available online.
